The beautiful music video gives us some imagery to match the seductive sounds.
We had the chance to catch up with Har’Monique to dig a little deeper into the fast-rising superstar. Enjoy the interview here:
First off, tell us about how your artist name became Har’Monique?
Har’Monique: Wow, ok so my name came from the fact that my songs are indeed very heavily saturated in harmonies. Like, there isn’t a single song where you won’t find one. It also came about because my mom and I have the same name, technically, I have the French version to her English name Monica and so I was speaking to her after I started creating music and I was like “isn’t it strange that there’s a harmonica but there’s no Har’Monique?” We were both dying laughing, but I was like yea I mean it only makes sense at this point.
Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?
Har’Monique: Honestly, I am very influenced by the greats. Those that are always testing the boundaries and trying to be the best they can be in music creatively as well as aiming to do whatever it takes to perfect their craft. That would be Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Aaliyah, Beyonce, Rihanna, and even Nicki Minaj. I am just really inspired by people who are or have done it big.
How would you describe the Har’Monique sound?
Har’Monique: My sound is a very wide range honestly. I’m a Gemini so as much as I’m trying to keep the world entertained, I’m definitely trying to keep myself entertained as well. My goal is to never create the same thing twice, to constantly push my own boundaries and to really just have fun with it. But my overall sound is pop because pop in itself is such a huge range of sounds, but it describes the majority of my music perfectly, just really powerful and upbeat kind of music but of course we slow it down every now and then for the sexual songs or the sad ones.
What is it that draws you to this crazy music industry?
Har’Monique: The love and passion of music is what draws me to it, because honestly, everything else about it freaks me out. I just want to be able to create and share what I’ve created without the extras, but the music industry is way different than any other form of art, which definitely isn’t fair, and I am understanding more and more why Sia went about it the way she did. But yea it’s all about the music.
Your new single “One In A Million” is a sultry banger. How did that song come together?
Har’Monique: Thank you, thank you so much! This song was more of a vibe than anything so I can’t say there was a lot that went into it. It was more so just me trying to capture the sound and this sound was definitely giving sexy and smooth, so I had to lean into it.
For your first music video, it came out fantastic. Tell us all about putting that together.
Har’Monique: Thank you so much! It was really interesting I must say. I knew I wanted to have some sexy dance scenes, but I just wanted the rest of the video to be “just me” in sexy lingerie, to really set the tone of the song. Emphasizing the fact that it’s supposed to be like a sexy bedroom/sensual strip club dance song.
What does your songwriting process look like?
Har’Monique: My song writing process is usually so much fun. When I’m ready to create I go beat shopping. Usually, I have a particular feeling I’m looking for that I want to explore so I will look for that whether it’s a sexy vibe, a fun party vibe, just a happy go lucky vibe, or a sad one. The sounds usually tell me what type of song it’s going to be and what type of lyrics need to go with it. So, yea my music usually writes itself as long as I love it, I can add my artistry to it.
How do you feel about the current music scene in Brooklyn?
Har’Monique: Honestly, I have no idea what’s going on with the music scene in my city. I just know that I’ve been working on my craft and my own original sound to present to the world, not really interested in seeing what everyone else is doing or comparing myself to anyone else. I just want to create shade, what I create and have everyone truly enjoy what I create. That is the only goal.
If you could choose one artist to collab with, who would that artist be?
Har’Monique: I have no idea, but I would love to collab with Doja Cat, she’s so versatile, it’s amazing. But aside from that I do have a song that I think would be taken up a notch with a Sean Paul feature. But honestly, that’s about it, I really don’t know who else would sound good with me, but I am definitely open to trying whatever when it comes to music.
Share some advice for other artists pushing for their breakthrough.
Har’Monique: The only advice I’d have at this point is staying consistent and focusing on what’s really driving you.
What does the future hold for Har’Monique?
Har’Monique: There’s so much more in store for the future! My next single is dropping August 30th, and my next video is dropping the Friday after that. I have another single that should be dropping before the release of my debut album in April 2025. Definitely going hard hitting the studio trying to make sure that I’m able to stick to that album release date. 23 tracks should be enough to hold over everyone that’s been waiting for years.
