IBG Interview – 8 Questions With… Keylluminati

Keylluminati

Every artist has their own way of creating music. It will come to us in different forms but the process does not matter as long as we push through to find the finished product. Our recent discovery Keylluminati finds peace in making music and that is one of the most important pieces.

We caught up with the aspiring rapper to get a deeper look into his story. Enjoy the interview here:

First off, tell us about the name Keylluminati?

The Name Keylluminati, starts with the first part of my Name which is Key.

Basically saying I’m going to put my heart mind and body into my craft. I’m going to invest in myself I’m going to shine that’s where the illuminate part comes in. The I at the end is just to be an eye opener and draw attention. No in anyway shape or form affiliated with Illuminati. Crazy how a letter can change the meaning of a word.

How would you describe your sound?

I definitely stand out from main stream rappers out right now. I try and make sure that I’m not talking about the same old drug money and Women when it comes to my music. Yes I’ll mention it but it’s not the main focus.

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

I’ve listened to a lot of Tyga Wayne Drake Jcole and Kendrick.

Tyga I’ve actually listened and watch him adapt and change his music as his career grew.

Drake I’ve listened and learned how to hit every aspect from rapping to doing a little bit of RnB as well to grow your fan base and not corner yourself into one genre.

Wayne as well can’t forget he went and dropped a whole album with a RockNRoll Theme

What is it that drives you to create music?

I’ve been actually writing poems since I’ve been in middle school. It wasn’t until about 2016-2017 did I actually start creating music and rapping. When I recorded my first song I ended enjoying the studio environment. It’s just you your thoughts and a microphone. You are basically at peace. Creating music helps you clear your mind with whatever problems you have whatever thoughts you are thinking whatever you want to get off your chest. It’s also fun to go in there and see what you can create.

Tell us about your songwriting process? How does a song come together for Keylluminati?

I don’t have a a book setup with lyrics that’s I’m already going to use or anything like that. I’m also not an off the top freestyle rapper so I literally have to write everything down. For me to write a song I have to listen to a beat, if I feel like I can ramble off a good flow and hit a couple good punchline then that’s why I will actually decide to write to the song. If I feel like the flow is off when I get a couple bars in I’ll stop and come back to the song later.

What do you hope the listener will take away from your music?

The only thing I hope my listeners take away is to do what makes you happy and put yourself out there. You will always have fans that will support you. Don’t do what everyone else is doing be yourself when it comes to whatever you wanna do. No one is better at being you than you.

Share some advice for other artists striving to set themselves apart.

Invest in yourself. Being an artist is more business than it is talent so learn how to market. Don’t worry about getting signed to a record label. You can literally do everything yourself these days, YouTube will be your best friend. Know your worth, don’t lower your price for anyone. People are going to spend money on the things they want.

Where do you see the career of Keylluminati going in the next year?

In a year there should be a hit record for me so be ready for that. I will not be stopping anytime soon. I’m just getting started.
