First off, what drives you to create music?

Love really drives me to create and I am very passionate about art. I feel as though there is no limitation to art, it’s a forever journey. I fully embrace who I am and the art world is where I connect.

How would you describe the Shakyra K. Sanders sound?

My sound is indie soul soft rock and metal. I like that my sound is always different and it tells a story. The listener can pick up on the emotion from the songs.

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

I would say Buddy Guy has had the biggest influence on me. I really love how passionate his sound is. He is also a great entertainer. He tells a story when he plays and connects with the audience.

How does a song come together for you? Tell us about your songwriting process?

I have to be in a certain mood to write songs, they usually just come randomly. But once I’m inspired, I commit to the song and the romance starts from there.

What do you hope the listener will take away from your music?

I hope the listener can feel my emotions through the music, I really do enjoy connecting with people on that level. I’m not afraid to be vulnerable while I’m making art. I have to be in that kind of zone to fully connect with the listener.
