We all were heavily influenced in our earliest days without even really knowing it was happening. Parents that shared music with their children gave them a gift, and often inspiration. (My personal LOVE for Pink Floyd was heavily directed by my mother listening to the band constantly, lol). Even as we age and explore different styles and grow more modern those influences will always simmer just under the surface ready to rise up when the sound is right. Our friend David Arn has found this with his recent release “Number One Angel.”
The Maryland-based folk-Americana veteran recalls his father waking him up to come down and play piano at their parties. Being in that uninhabited joy of a gathering with adults welcoming him and his talent into their camaraderie had a huge effect on his love for making music. With “Number One Angel” he channels the world of his parents and grandparents to deliver a heartfelt gem from an earlier time.
From the first notes, the song livens up the room with a fun piano setting the foundation for a good time. The track sat on a hard drive of David Arn for years before he finally decided to release it. This allows us to hear his voice while it was still strong and full of character. He pairs with Tyra Juliette who adds a true soulfulness bringing the song to another level. The raw, authentic vibe resonates deeply.
Music Video for “Number One Angel” by David Arn
The production is pristine yet unpolished, letting each element—guitar strums, soft percussion, and soaring vocal deliveries—breathe in their own space but create something that blends seamlessly. The chorus, with its gentle swell of harmonies, is pure ear-candy, inviting listeners to sway along or sink into reflection. It’s the kind of track that feels equally at home in a cozy coffeehouse or blasting through speakers on a late-night drive.
The accompanying music video was built from public domain film clips. If I wasn’t told that I would have thought these clips were made for the song because it seems to sync perfectly to the vibe and emotion of the song.
With “Number One Angel”, David Arn again proves he’s a force in the Indie, Americana, Folk scene. His lyrical storytelling style will always remain relevant as he creates something truly special. Have a few listens and let it linger in your mind.
