Just like any skill, songwriting takes hard work and practice. It can also get rusty fast when we take time between writing. The answer is just to get in as much practice as possible and always be improving. Ehson Hashemian has been writing great songs for years but after a little break is now back where he wants to be with new solo album Believe.

Known for co-writing Young the Giant’s iconic hit “Cough Syrup” and his older solo work under the name Backwards Forwards, the singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist is ready to step back into the spotlight with this 14-track collection of melodic alternative rock. Brimming with infectious riffs, playful rhythms, and an uplifting call to embrace self-honesty, Believe feels like a sun-soaked drive along the Pacific Coast Highway—both nostalgic and forward-looking.

From the opening chords of “Accept,” Eshon Hashemian sets the tone with a hypnotic blend of trickling guitars and punchy drums that burst with energy. His vocals, expressive and earnest, weave a narrative of embracing life’s fleeting moments ”that came and went” to the people who shape us. The track has an effervescent charm that puts a little smile in the corner of your mouth.

“Accept” Your Entry into Eshon Hashemian’s World

The title track “Believe” keeps it going with similar guitar swirls and the unique voice of Eshon Hashemian, not polished but real and relatable. Comparisons to bands like Vampire Weekend and even a touch of Talking Heads come to mind. Just fun listening.

Meanwhile, “Do” is a fun little rocker with some exquisite drum work. A shimmering and introspective groove full of layered guitars and heartfelt vocals invoking a quiet resilience that’s pure magic. Sounds from all angles fill the soundscape.

The album’s thematic core—finding hope and confidence amid personal tumult—ties its diverse sounds together. The closing track “When It’s Time” delivers a mood-setting backdrop that evolves into a soaring anthem. Some dynamic guitar work painting a picture of ease and relaxation perfect to end the album with.

Believe is Ehson Hashemian at his most confident, a record that’s both a party and a personal reckoning. It’s an invitation to dance, reflect, and believe in the power of moving forward. With its masterful hooks and sunny yet introspective vibe, this album cements Hashemian as an indie artist to watch, one who’s unafraid to evolve while staying true to his roots.
