IBG Interview – 8 Questions With… TreyJay

TreyJay

The most important thing about creating music, in my opinion, is having fun. When it becomes a chore then it just isn’t worth it. We recently came across TreyJay who seems to get this. We had a chance to chat with the talented artist to get a little behind the scenes. Enjoy the interview here:

First off, what’s up with the name TreyJay?

Always felt like a combination of different people both in music and life, so it’s like there’s 3 of me, ‘Tre’ hence TREYJAY.

How would you describe your sound?

That’s tough, maybe if drake, partynextdoor and Kendrick grew up in London.

Which artists have had the biggest influence on you?

As well as the 3 I mentioned earlier, probably Mick Jenkins, frank ocean and tyler the creator.

What is it that pushes you to create music?

Its how I deal with certain feelings, and I want to make something that other people resonate with.

How does a song come together for you? What is your songwriting process?

it all depends maybe ill hear a mad beat, or ill have a line or verse in my head that I have to jot down before I forget it.

Tell us about your latest single “May 1st (interlude)”

This is a slice of a part of my like and a bittersweet tale of the relationships that formed and crumbled uring.

Give us some advice for other rappers combining different styles?

Just do what you want, its more fun and it will be way more satisfying to blow with your own sound. Take pride in your uniqueness.

What does the future hold for TreyJay?

More music, my debut project, and some appearances in grm daily and Netflix.
