Tucked away in The Woodlands of Dover, Delaware, approximately 90,000 people with a united passion for music will come together to take part in Firefly Music Festival. Annually the festival takes over the state for three days, joining together music-lover’s of all ages. Fans can always expect a diverse lineup from Firefly, bringing to the table top 20 artists, alternative and indie bands, rappers and EDM artists, and everything in-between.
This years bill features Post Malone, Panic! At The Disco, and Travis Scott as the daily headliners, and an array of other acts such as Death Cab For Cutie, ZEDD, and Vampire Weekend. With such a diverse and impressive lineup, it’s difficult to catch every performance that you would like. Indie Band Guru will be attending the festival this year and in honor of that we’ve put together a list of eight acts to be on the lookout for.
1. Crooked Colours
Known for their high-octane performances, Australian based electronic artist Crooked Colours has taken Australia by storm and now they’re ready to embark on America. Their stop at Firefly is part of a massive North American tour that hits several other main festivals like Bonnaroo and Electric Forest. The act recently released their sophomore album, Langata, which features a smooth and atmospheric aura and can be found on Spotify.
2. Weathers
Los Angeles based, alternative four-piece Weathers is as talented as they are well dressed. Recently featured by Hot Topic and continuously gaining traction with the radio stations, Weathers have proved that they are worth their weight in gold. Touring extensively throughout the beginning of 2019, this act has no plans on slowing down. Be sure to head over to The Roost stage on Saturday and swing your hips with them!
3. Yoke Lore
Former member of Walk The Moon, Adrian Galvin has limitless talents including dancing, drawing, and playing several different instruments. He has used those talents to take hold of a new musical endeavor, Yoke Lore. Garnishing support from none other than Taylor Swift, Yoke Lore has attracted all of the right people since their creation. The ambiance and emotion of their performance will be what keeps Yoke Lore in your head long after their Saturday set.
4. The Orphan The Poet
All of their other friends may have money, but none of them have the energy that The Orphan The Poet has.These Columbus based alt-rockers bring nothing short of a party to their live performances. 2019 has been fruitful for the act, bringing them many well-earned successes. Journey’s recently began to feature the music video for “Money” in stores across the country. The video (above) perfectly depicts what you can expect from their thirty minute set on Sunday, make certain not to miss it!
5. Magic Giant
Gaining traction every day, Magic Giant is an unstoppable force. Billboard, Rolling Stone, and the Today Show have all highlighted this band as one that stands out above the crowd. With a history of playing Coachella, Firefly, and the like, this act is no stranger to the nuanced festival performance. Magic Giant is guaranteed to deliver a fun and carefree atmosphere for fans to enjoy during their two sets on Sunday.
6. Grizfolk
With roots in Sweden and a base in Nashville and Los Angeles, Grizfolk has crafted their own unique blend of rock and folk. Their carefully constructed sound has gained them impressive streaming numbers, reaching over 130 million combined streams and over a million monthly listeners on Spotify. Grizfolk has been touring consistently for the last five years, opening for acts like X Ambassadors, Andrew McMahon and The Wilderness, and Bastille. Don’t miss your two chances to see these gems perform on Friday!
7. Lawrence
Coming off of the success from their album, Living Room, which peaked at #2 on iTunes R&B/Soul Chart last year, Lawrence is ready to show the world what they are made of. This soul/pop act was started by siblings, Clyde and Gracie, and they later added six other close friends to complete the band. Bringing funk back to the modern world, Lawrence is set to have a lively and fun set on Friday at The Roost stage.
8. Tank and the Bangas
Easily one of the most distinctive sounds on the Firefly lineup, Tank and the Bangas has created a sound truly all their own. This New Orleans based act combines rhythm and soul with spoken word, blending together to create sheer magic. 2019 saw the bands first major label album release, Green Balloon and a Paste Magazine live session. Noted to have an unmatched energy on stage and a smile that can light up The Woodlands, Tank and the Bangas are a must-see performance.
