‘Whatever Waits Above’ by FZY entrances you with melodic beats

FZY

Rapper/museum/producer Frank FZY is a music genius from Northern California that has been in the game for about 11 years and has been rapping since his junior year of high school. The self described metal head turned rapper has quite the bit of success with his latest track “Whatever Waits Above,” which is a lot more experimental than I expected.

In an interview with Crazy Pellas, FZY stated that his music is inspired by his own “delusions.” This means that he would recreate sounds in his head repeatedly and then incorporate them into his music. Also, he gives a lot of credit for his success to the internet. After all, we are a very media centered age and the internet may just be the best way to branch out and show the world what you’ve got.

As evidenced by this track, FZY has got quite a lot. It’s from the album Act 1: Exposition and starts off quite gently as the music fades in and provides quite the mellow tone at first. As the beat kicks in, there’s a steady repetition that makes you start bobbing your head along. A very distorted voice plays in the background and the rapping begins, and it is quite impressive. You can definitely tell that his music was inspired by the ever loved Eminem, as the pace of the rapping greatly resembles the legendary artist.

Throughout the entire track, you become completely entranced. There’s quite a simplicity in it in that it really isn’t too complex, but the track is very interesting. The vocals are great, and the back and forth banter that happens with the “normal” voice and the voice heavy with distortion greatly resembles Eminem’s “Guilty Conscience” or a song from Tyler, the Creator.

Overall, I’d have to say that this one could be quite the hit if the internet world would get it circulating, so you should definitely go check it out over on YouTube.
