‘Time After Time’ from Fuzz is Not Your Typical Club Hit

Fuzz

A playful dance of pop with the soulful bump of house makes “Time After Time” by Fuzz one to look out for.

Fuzz is here to have fun

The unique sound of Fuzz has a standout quality that sets it apart from normal pop songs. Easily a club hit, “Time After Time” is so infectious in its rhythm it’s hard to ignore. The tune is one of those that makes you stop and Shazam it — and listen for more. The “more” in this case is Fuzz’s upcoming EP, What Are We?, a deeper exploration of the interesting experimental pop.

As is the norm with pop songs of the decade, the lyricism isn’t to be ignored. “Time After Time” is definitely a heartfelt love song. If that sounds cautionary, don’t worry. You won’t be left crying in the club (because who wants that?).

This one has the same impact as “Closer” by The Chainsmokers, without the serious overplay. One of the elements of the song is a nod to the artist’s Middle Eastern heritage, and it’s easy to see that from the visually pleasing video.

How influences make the music

Colorful, bright, and positive. Nothing but smiles and good times throughout. The video has a stripped down quality that highlights the fun of the song. It’s simply Fuzz and a couple of friends dancing around and vibing to the music. In essence, this is what pop and house are all about.

While over-production is a common theme of pop, the missing element can sometimes be the lack of simple notions. The nods to Cyndi Lauper and traditional house seem like clashing ideas. While the mix is interesting, it’s not unenjoyable. And Fuzz, a Melbourne native, has a keen knowledge of what makes a pop song work while not being completely conventional.

Available starting on March 9, “Time After Time” is definitely one to look for, especially if you’re into dance-pop that doesn’t sound like three Swedish guys wrote it.
